Police alleged that the driver fled with the cash-filled bag while the family was inside the mall

Noida: A 34-year-old driver was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 9 lakh from the car of his employer, an Aligarh-based hardware businessman.The accused, Kapil, a resident of Aligarh, had been working for the businessman, Sudhir Bansal, for the past 12 years. Police said the incident took place on July 18 when Bansal visited a shopping mall in Noida with his family. Before entering the mall, he kept a bag containing Rs 9 lakh in cash inside the car while Kapil stayed back.Police alleged that the driver fled with the cash-filled bag while the family was inside the mall. After discovering the theft, Bansal approached Sector 20 police station, where an FIR was registered.Additional DCP Manisha Singh said police traced the accused using electronic surveillance and technical evidence. Kapil was arrested on Monday from a park near Lal PathLabs in Sector 20. The entire stolen amount of Rs 9 lakh was recovered from his possession. Police also allegedly recovered a knife from him, following which a separate case under Arms Act was registered.During interrogation, Kapil allegedly confessed to the theft, telling police that he was tempted after seeing the large amount of cash kept in the vehicle. According to police, he planned to use the money to repay his debts and later open a shop to start his own business. Investigators said he claimed he kept the plan to himself and involved no one else to avoid detection.Bansal told police that the incident amounted to a breach of trust, as Kapil had worked for the family for 12 years and had never previously given them any reason to doubt his honesty.
