Bengaluru: The managing director of a private firm has accused his former driver of fleeing with 1.5 kg of gold ornaments from his office locker in Aug last year.According to a complaint filed by Dr. Sreetharan Murthy, managing director of Achintyaah Projects Pvt. Ltd., a real estate firm located on Residency Road, Rajesh P had been working as his driver since 2023 and had unrestricted access to the office premises. He also had access to the customised access control system installed on the complainant’s cabin door and was aware of the password to the locker inside.Trouble began on Aug 20, when Rajesh abruptly left the workplace without informing the complainant or other staff members. When Murthy attempted to contact him on his mobile phone, it was found switched off thereafter.Murthy stated that he had travelled to Delhi on official work, and upon his return discovered that gold ornaments weighing around 1,500 grams—including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other items—were missing from his chamber locker. Suspicion quickly fell on the driver, who had both access to the premises and knowledge of the security systems.Despite attempts to contact him, the accused failed to respond. Murthy waited for Rajesh to return the stolen gold. With no other option left, he approached the police and lodged a case after almost eight months.A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 306 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master).
