Gurgaon: A 28-year-old driver drowned while bathing in a rain-filled abandoned stone quarry in the Aravali area near Silkhoh village in Nuh on Monday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Zuber, a resident of Silkhoh village.According to villagers, Zuber was at home as he was spending the day off on Monday. “Around noon, he went to an abandoned stone quarry in the Aravali hills near the village, where rainwater accumulated over the past few days. The quarry has become a popular spot for residents and children to bathe during the monsoon,” the villager added.Several people were in the water when Zuber entered the quarry to bathe. After some time, those present realised he was no longer visible and began searching for him.During the search, a child bathing in the quarry accidentally came into contact with Zuber’s body with his foot. Villagers and local youths immediately pulled him out of the water, but he already died.Police from Sadar Tauru police station reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation. The body was taken into custody and legal formalities were initiated.“His death has cast a pall of gloom over the village. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters,” a villager said.Police said no complaint has been lodged by the family and no suspicion has been raised against anyone so far. “The exact circumstances surrounding the drowning will be established during the investigation,” a police officer said.Villagers said Zuber’s father died some time ago and he was the sole earning member of the family. His sudden death has left his family shattered and prompted an outpouring of grief in the village, they said.
