Madikeri: This summer, drinking water crisis in Ponnampet, Kodagu district has aggravated. While many areas of the town, including TR Road, Torebeedi and Nisarga Nagar, have been facing drinking water problems for the past two months, it became severe, affecting residents. The town has a population of over 11,000. Since the borewells installed to supply water for tankers dried up, the situation became severe. Water was supplied through tankers, but recently, due to the depletion of groundwater, the borewell dried up, adding to the problem. The administration relied on borewells and did not make alternative arrangements to solve water crisis, explained a local resident, Channa Naik. Ponnampet town panchayat President Anneera Harish said that due to the low groundwater level in the borewell, water problems arose in many parts of the town. MLA AS Ponnanna already instructed officials to supply water through tankers, Anneera said. “We will discuss with the town administrative board members and take steps to supply water in tankers to the areas,” the president stated.
