Srinagar, Aug 14: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday paid tributes to renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi on his fifth death anniversary.

Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi, who served as Sajjada Nashin and Mutawalli of Baba Nagri Wangath, was remembered for his religious, social and political contributions.

In a statement, Farooq and Omar said Mian Bashir and his forefathers played an important role in spreading Islam and improving the socio-economic conditions of poor and marginalised Gujjar and Bakarwal communities.

They said people from different sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir have shared deep reverence for the Baba Nagri shrine for generations.

The NC leaders described Mian Bashir’s services, particularly in the religious and social spheres, as unforgettable and expressed hope that his son and present Sajjada Nashin, Mian Altaf Ahmad, would continue his legacy of serving the people.

Party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Sharif-ud-Din Shariq, Treasurer and Rajya Sabha Member Shammi Oberoi, Rajya Sabha Member Sajad Ahmed Kichloo and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq also paid tributes to Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi.
