Itanagar: The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR), in collaboration with the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society (AMMS), launched a door-to-door awareness campaign in Itanagar on Monday to promote environmental responsibility and curb urban pollution.Supported by the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (ISCDCL), the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign covered around 200 households in Industrial Colony, Chandranagar, IG Park Colony and Niti Vihar Tin Ali here.Volunteers engaged with residents to demonstrate practical methods for segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at source. The teams distributed informational materials on the health and ecological hazards of dumping household garbage into nearby rivers and drainage systems.YMCR vice chairperson Keyom Doni said long-term river conservation depends on changing daily household habits. “Clean rivers begin with clean habits at home. This campaign is not just about collecting waste responsibly; it is about instilling a sense of ownership among citizens towards their environment,” Doni said.He urged residents to make waste segregation a daily discipline to reduce pressure on municipal waste management systems and prevent degradation of local water bodies.
