Ahmedabad: The deadline for submitting online applications for admissions to private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been extended by six days, officials said on Friday. The last date, earlier set for April 17, has now been pushed to April 23 in view of difficulties faced by parents in securing necessary documents during the ongoing election process. The application process, which began on April 7, has seen a strong response, with over 2 lakh applications submitted against more than 84,000 seats available across the state. However, many parents reported delays in obtaining key documents such as caste certificate, non-creamy layer certificate and income proof, as several govt offices remain engaged in election-related duties.Following repeated requests from parents for additional time, the directorate of primary education decided to extend the deadline to facilitate smoother completion of the application process.Officials said the extension would allow parents to submit forms accurately along with all required documents. However, it is expected to affect the admission schedule announced earlier. As per the plan released on April 11, the first round of admissions was slated for April 29.
