Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district is facing delays in repairing 304 govt schools damaged by rain, with funds for restoration yet to be sanctioned even as the monsoon draws near.Officials said a proposal seeking Rs 7.1 crore for repair works has already been submitted, but approval is still pending. The delay has raised concerns over the safety of students and the readiness of schools before the next academic year begins.According to officials handling school infrastructure and repairs, the damage was recorded during the 2025-26 academic year after heavy showers affected school buildings across the district. The consolidated report was sent to the DC’s office, as repair works are usually taken up before the start of the new academic year. However, with only about two months left before reopening, no funds have been released. Most of the damage has been reported to roofs, walls, windows and doors, making immediate repairs essential.A senior official said the schools require urgent attention and that delay in funds could leave many campuses vulnerable during heavy rains. The concern is particularly serious in areas where structural damage may affect the safe functioning of classrooms.Dakshina Kannada DC Darshan HV said the district administration has already forwarded the proposal seeking funds. The request also includes rain-damaged anganwadis in the district. “The administration expects funds to be released by April end, and hopes to complete the repair work before the start of the academic year,” he saidDarshan said the highest number of damaged schools has been reported from Belthangady, Puttur and Mangaluru taluks.
