Sasaram: A 23-year-old DJ (disc jockey) operator was allegedly lynched over a love affair in the Kudra police station area of Kaimur district on Tuesday night, triggering outrage and a highway blockade by villagers. The victim, Raja Kumar Gupta, a resident of Pusauli Bazaar, was first rushed to the Kudra hospital in critical condition and later referred to Bhabhua sadar hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around midnight.Police said Raja was allegedly lured to a school campus on the pretext of hiring DJ equipment and beaten with iron rods and wooden clubs. According to police, the assailants later dragged him across the railway tracks to another school premise, where they assaulted him again.“Preliminary investigation suggests it was a targeted attack following a confrontation earlier in the evening. As per the family, Raja had been in a relationship with a neighbourhood girl. The situation turned violent after the girl’s family reportedly caught the pair together at Raja’s shop on Station Road,” said Mohania SDPO Pradeep Kumar.Police sources said the girl’s relatives allegedly called Raja, pretending to borrow a microphone for a DJ set, and attacked him soon after he arrived. When Raja’s parents reached the spot after being alerted by a passerby, the assailants allegedly threatened them before fleeing.The killing sparked intense protests on Wednesday morning, with grieving family members and hundreds of villagers placing the body on NH-19 and blocking traffic for over two hours. The blockade was lifted after senior police officials assured swift action and a thorough probe.In a series of overnight raids, police arrested four people, including the prime accused, Abhishek. Additional forces have been deployed in Pusauli to maintain law and order as the investigation continues.
