Prayagraj: As part of ongoing efforts to elevate the water sports in the Sangam city to national and international level, Divisional Commissioner Saumya Agarwal on Tuesday inspected the modern sports infrastructure being developed at the Boat Club complex.Agarwal reviewed various under-construction facilities including a multi-purpose gym, a modern boat house and a warehouse. She issued directives to ensure their high-quality construction and timely completion.Pointedly, key decisions regarding the holistic development of water sports like kayaking, canoeing, and rowing were taken during the Divisional Sports Development and Promotion Committee meet recently. In line with these decisions, and drawing inspiration from world-class water sports boat house and warehouse models developed by the Sports Authority of India in Kerala, modern sports infrastructure is being set up at the Boat Club complex in a phased manner.The facilities being developed include a modern warehouse for the safe storage of boats, a multi-purpose gym to enhance athletes’ physical fitness and performance, system for maintenance of sports equipment, and training facilities tailored to water sports. These efforts aim to equip athletes for national and international competitions by providing them with a world-class training environment.Divisional Commissioner, noted that athletes from Prayagraj recently delivered outstanding performances and won multiple medals in various kayaking and canoeing events at the 37th Uttar Pradesh State Senior Canoe Sprint Championship. She emphasized that expanding modern sports infrastructure, scientific training systems, and high-quality facilities is essential to continuously encourage and support this talent. She, meanwhile, asked officials to develop the Boat Club into a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for water sports training and competitions. ====eom
