Hyderabad: Bollywood director Mani Shankar’s son Prem Shankar was arrested by Banjara Hills police on Wednesday after he allegedly misbehaved with a traffic policeman and later escaped.Prem Shankar was driving his electric vehicle (EV) car and it suddenly stopped in the middle of the road near SNT junction on Sunday night. On noticing this, a traffic policeman reached out to him and offered to help him push the vehicle to a side, Banjara Hills police said.“The man who was at the wheel, when asked to come out, strangely refused. Subsequently, he was forced to come out since the car was lying in the middle of the road. After emerging from the vehicle, he pushed traffic home guard Manyam aside,” Banjara Hills police said. The car got stranded on the road after the vehicle’s battery got discharged. As police were pushing the car to a side, Prem Shankar, escaped from the stop. Based on the vehicle’s registration details, police went to a house in Srinagar colony. But the accused, a businessman, was found missing. On Wednesday, Prem Shankar was traced. “We suspect that he was drunk at the time of vehicle’s break down. Since there is a time lag of two days, we will be taking blood sample to know whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol,” police said. Police registered a case under Section 121 (Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
