Patna: Poetry, music and theatre came together in the city on Wednesday to celebrate the birth anniversary of ‘Rashtrakavi’ Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, one of Hindi literature’s most influential poets. Around 200 students and members of the literary community attended the event, which underscored the importance of connecting younger generations with India’s literary heritage and revisiting the timeless ideas reflected in Dinkar’s poetry.The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Patna, in collaboration with Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP), organised ‘DinkarEk:RangAnek’, a lecture and cultural presentation highlighting the many dimensions of Dinkar’s literary legacy. Speakers and performers reflected on the continuing relevance of his writings, which champion nationalism, social consciousness, courage, justice and human values.Delivering a lecture on Dinkar’s contribution to literature and his contemporary relevance, Tarun Kumar spoke about the enduring appeal of the poet’s works and ideas. Dinkar’s celebrated epics Rashmirathi and Kurukshetra continue to occupy a prominent place in Hindi literary discourse for their exploration of heroism, morality, conflict and human dignity.The literary tribute was complemented by a series of cultural performances. Theatre veteran Javed Akhtar Khan recited passages from Kurukshetra, while Sita Ram Singh and his troupe presented musical renditions inspired by Dinkar’s poetry. Theatre artist Bimlendu Kumar staged a dramatic reading from Rashmirathi, bringing the epic poem alive for the audience.Deepak Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary to the governor, attended the programme as chief guest. ICCR regional director Swadha Rizvi, CIMP director Rana Singh, faculty members, academics and literature enthusiasts were also present.
