Claiming to be a party worker who started from scratch to rise up the ranks in BJP, Majumdar wished to contest from any of the three seats of Midnapore, Bijpur or New Town. Ghosh, meanwhile, expressed his willingness to contest from Kharagpur.Majumdar started working in the New Town area as an ordinary BJP worker in 2012. State netas asked her to work from the booth level to understand the party and its functioning. “It was a panchayat area and initially there was resistance. But I worked hard to grow my acceptance in that area. I never lost the zeal, and that yielded results,” Majumdar said.Majumdar struggled for the next 7-8 years before she was inducted into the handloom weaver cell of BJP. “I hope party functionaries noticed my work and will recognise the same,” she said. Majumdar was later inducted into BJP’s women’s wing. While Majumdar’s submission caused discomfort within a section of BJP, Ghosh on Thursday said: “Her association with BJP is even longer than mine. Thousands of workers filed their résumés and there is nothing wrong in that. The party will decide on that.”Majumdar claimed that she submitted her résumé based on her work and not to get any privilege of being Ghosh’s wife. “I decided to marry him recently. That does not define my continuation in the party for more than a decade now. I experienced the tragedy of a son’s death. But that could not deter me from my responsibilities towards BJP,” she said.
