Origin Story
Didi Rose Jewelry was born from Benedicta Awere-Malik’s childhood nickname, Didi, and her lifelong love of roses. From a young age in Nigeria, she expressed her creativity everywhere — braiding hair at seven, frosting cakes at nine and sewing by eleven. Her first jewelry experiments involved melting bits of wire in palm oil to mimic coral beads, foreshadowing a life devoted to transforming simple materials into art. Inspired by her grandmothers, who treasured gold and coral, she developed a deep connection to jewelry as more than adornment — it was storytelling, heritage and self-expression.
Awere-Malik’s journey was never straightforward. Early collaborations taught her the hard lessons of originality and intellectual property, prompting her to master soldering, fabrication and stone-setting herself. She started with Swarovski crystals before discovering the endless beauty of natural gemstones, each inspiring unique, wearable pieces. By blending bold, modern design with timeless craftsmanship, she creates jewelry that is personal, unapologetic and built to last.
