Dibrugarh: District administration has ordered the registration of all electric autos operating within the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) area.DC Bikram Kairi issued the order on Friday, citing rising congestion and road safety concerns as the Mancotta Road Flyover work and the proposed Amolapatty Junction Flyover are expected to disrupt traffic flow.Dibrugarh, projected as Assam’s second capital, has experienced rapid urban growth and a surge in vehicle numbers, adding pressure on the road network. “The number of light motor vehicles and electric autos has increased beyond the carrying capacity of Dibrugarh city. With two major construction projects running simultaneously, it has become essential to regulate electric auto movement to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents,” Kairi said.Under the order, only electric autos with a registered address within the DMC area or within a five-kilometre radius of the DMC boundary will be permitted to operate within the DMC and Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) areas. Each owner may register only one electric auto.Registration camps will be held from June 29 to July 4 at four locations — DMC campus, Murulidhar Jalan Bus Terminus, ASTC campus and the District Transport Office campus. No fee will be charged. “This exercise is only to enumerate and regulate civic issues within the DMC area,” the order read.Owners must submit vehicle registration details, Aadhaar particulars of the owner and driver, driving licence details, and the usual charging station location.DMC has been directed to submit a full registration report by July 6. Traffic Police and the district transport officer have been tasked with publicising the camps. Further orders regulating electric auto operations will follow the registration process.
