Dibrugarh: Police removed unauthorised black films from vehicles during a special drive in Dibrugarh on Saturday.The drive targeted vehicles with tinted glass or aftermarket films that violated visibility norms. Police removed the films on the spot and cautioned owners against reinstalling them.The action followed Supreme Court’s directive prohibiting black films on vehicle glass. Its 2012 ruling directed that no film or material be pasted on safety glass, citing visibility and security concerns.“The Supreme Court’s directive on black films is clear. We are enforcing the rule to ensure proper visibility and enhance safety. Obscured visibility can create security concerns, particularly in cases where vehicles are used to conceal unlawful activities,” a traffic official said.Police advised motorists to meet visibility standards and avoid modifications violating the Motor Vehicles Act. Owners with aftermarket films on windscreens or side windows were urged to remove them voluntarily.Officials said enforcement would continue and offenders would face action under applicable law. The drive aims to prevent black films, a common traffic violation in the district.
