Rourkela: A 24-year-old man reportedly lost both his palms after a crude bomb he was allegedly preparing for wildlife hunting exploded at his house in a Dhenkanal village on Thursday evening. Two of his associates were also injured but fled without treatment. Police have begun a probe.The incident occurred at Gandataila village under Parjang police station limits. The injured has been identified as Birendra Naik.Sources said Naik and two others were allegedly assembling a handmade explosive device at his house when it went off. The blast was triggered when the device was reportedly tightened forcefully, leaving Naik critically injured. Both his palms were blown off, while the two others sustained burn injuries.Naik was rushed to Parjang community health centre for first-aid and later referred to a hospital in Cuttack. The two injured associates, however, fled the spot.On receiving tip-off, Parjang police reached the spot on Thursday night and launched an inquiry. Efforts are on to trace the two absconding youths. “We are inquiring into the incident,” said Subrat Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Parjang police station.Forest officials also visited the village on Friday and initiated a parallel inquiry. “We are collecting details and will take further action accordingly. Efforts are on to reach the injured for his statement,” said S K Patra, range officer in additional charge of Mahabirog forest range.
