Dibrugarh: A 62-year-old businessman, Pawan Jain alias Punia, was found dead inside the bathroom of a house near his residence in Dhakuakhana town in Lakhimpur district on Tuesday night, hours after his family reported him missing.Police have arrested three members of a family in connection with the case and launched a search for another suspected accused.Jain had left his shop around 1pm on Tuesday to have lunch at home. He was reportedly seen on CCTV riding his bicycle towards home. However, when he did not return and his mobile phone was found switched off, his family lodged a missing-person complaint at Dhakuakhana police station.Police examined CCTV footage and pursued other leads during the search. The investigation led them to the residence of trader Dhananjay Sahu in Baligaon, located at a short distance from Jain’s house.A police team searched Sahu’s residence and recovered Jain’s body from the bathroom around 10 pm. The body was reportedly wrapped in a plastic bag. It was later sent to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.Police arrested Sahu (47), his wife Sita (37), and their son Suraj (18).According to police, a financial dispute between Jain and Sahu appears to be one of the circumstances being examined. Preliminary investigation has indicated that Jain had allegedly lent a substantial amount of money to Sahu, who runs a grocery business, and had been seeking repayment.Dhakuakhana PS officer-in charge Priyabrat Gogoi said the investigation was on and police were looking for Raju Sahani, a resident of Sivasagar, whose name has emerged during the probe. “We are looking for Raju Sahani. Further details will be known as the investigation progresses,” Gogoi said. Police are examining the circumstances under which Sahani was allegedly contacted to help dispose of Jain’s body.The incident led to a shutdown of business establishments in Dhakuakhana on Wednesday.
