Panaji: Mapusa police registered an FIR against real estate developer Tarak Arolkar for allegedly cheating a Mormugao resident of Rs 41.9 lakh after promising to sell her a 51,000 sq m property at Torxem, Pernem.According to the complaint, Arolkar, of Saaiccha Developers, Peddem, Mapusa, allegedly induced the complainant’s mother, Sandhya Manuel Bhandare Sequeira, by claiming that he would sell her the property. Believing his representations, she entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Arolkar for its purchase.The complainant said Sequeira subsequently made financial transactions totalling Rs 41.9 lakh to Arolkar. However, despite receiving the amount, he allegedly failed to complete the transaction or execute the necessary documents for the sale of the property.The accused also allegedly failed to refund the amount paid by Sequeira.Arolkar is already under arrest in connection with another alleged property fraud involving a property in Assagao.PSI Abhijit Naik is investigating the case.
