Lucknow: A Fast Track Court in Deoria has sentenced a man and his parents to life imprisonment for killing a relative with a spade in a family feud that took place more than five years ago.Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court-II) Jagannath also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each convict. The court ordered that each will undergo an additional six months in jail if the fine is not paid.The prosecution said the attack occurred on Feb 8, 2021, at Khampar bazaar under Khampar police station area. Dinesh Gupta was sitting outside his house when Sachin Gupta, along with his father Prabhu Dayaram Gupta and mother Meena Devi, allegedly arrived carrying a spade and a hoe and assaulted him.On hearing Dinesh’s cries, his elder brother Kunj Bihari Gupta tried to intervene but was also attacked, the prosecution said. Both brothers suffered serious head and body injuries and reportedly fell unconscious.They were taken to hospital for treatment. Dinesh later died in Lucknow about a week after the incident, while Kunj Bihari survived with grievous injuries.The case was registered on a complaint by Indra Kala Devi, wife of Kunj Bihari, who alleged that the assault stemmed from long-running hostility between two branches of the family.After examining evidence and witness testimonies and hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted Sachin Gupta, Prabhu Dayaram Gupta and Meena Devi of murder and awarded life terms.A fourth accused, a juvenile at the time of the offence, is facing separate proceedings before Juvenile Justice Board.
