Ahmedabad: Two days after a road rage resulted in a killing and arson in Dhandhuka town, authorities on Tuesday began a demolition drive against alleged unlawful structures linked to people with criminal antecedents, officials said.Dharmesh Gamara, 30, was stabbed on Sunday afternoon after a collision between two motorcycles. His death sparked tension in the area, with a mob torching seven to eight roadside shops shortly after the killing occurred there. Police arrested two accused, identified as Samir and Rizwan, in connection with the killing. Around 15 to 20 people were detained for their alleged role in the arson. Sub-divisional magistrate Vidyasagar said the administration started removing encroachments after completing due legal procedures. “Action is being taken against 15 structures. The process was underway for six months. The demolition has now begun,” he said. The drive was carried out along the Dhandhuka-Bagodara Highway and in areas such as Khatkiwad. Authorities said the action also included encroachments linked to the properties of the two murder accused. Deputy superintendent of police Astha Rana said nearly 400 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order during the exercise, with senior officials present on the ground. Officials added that the action was mainly targeted at illegal constructions belonging to persons allegedly involved in criminal activities, including cow slaughter. Municipal and revenue department teams assisted in the demolition exercise. Police said the situation in Dhandhuka remained under control.
