The accused, identified as Gurman Singh, alias “Road Safety Wala,” allegedly uploaded objectionable videos on social media and YouTube to gain online popularity and earn money through monetization.

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old YouTuber was arrested for allegedly targeting women riders and minor girls by deliberately crashing into their vehicles, harassing them, and posting videos of the incidents on social media.The accused, identified as Gurman Singh, alias “Road Safety Wala,” allegedly uploaded objectionable videos on social media and YouTube to gain online popularity and earn money through monetization.The arrest followed a complaint filed by a father, who alleged that on June 2, two men on a motorcycle intentionally rammed his minor daughters’ scooter from behind before following them, making inappropriate remarks and using abusive language.Days later, he discovered videos of his daughters on YouTube and one of the accused’s social media accounts.DCP (West) Hareshwar V Swami said a team led by inspector Vikas Buldak investigated the case and arrested Singh, who is pursuing an open graduation course from Khalsa College, Delhi. Police said his YouTube channel has around 21,000 followers, while another of his social media accounts has about 2.1 lakh followers.During interrogation, Singh allegedly admitted that he created such videos to increase his social media following, make content go viral, and earn revenue through monetization.He also allegedly confessed to deliberately targeting women riders for greater online engagement and his personal gratification.According to police, Singh identified women riders and pillion riders, including minor girls, on public roads and intentionally hit their vehicles. To avoid suspicion, he would apologise by saying, “Sorry Didi,” before uploading videos of the incidents on social media without the victims’ consent.Police recovered a mobile phone from his possession.
