New Delhi: The University of Delhi and semiconductor and computing company AMD have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide students and faculty with training and practical exposure in artificial intelligence (AI) development.
Under the collaboration, AMD will bring its AI Engage Developer Program to Delhi University, with the programme expected to train up to 10,000 students over the next year.
Students and faculty participating in the initiative will receive access to AMD’s open-source ROCm AI software platform, learning resources and developer GPU cloud credits. The programme will also include technical workshops and opportunities to use cloud-based GPU resources for AI experimentation.
The collaboration is aimed at helping students gain practical experience in developing, testing and deploying AI applications, alongside their academic learning.
According to AMD, the programme will provide access to its AI learning curriculum and open software ecosystem, with applications across AI development, research and related areas.
Prof Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, said the partnership would provide students with practical exposure to AI computing platforms and help strengthen the connection between academic learning and industry requirements.
Jaya Jagadish, Country Head and Senior Vice-President, Engineering, AMD India, said access to AI development platforms and tools at an early stage could help students move from learning AI concepts to developing applications.
The University of Delhi is expected to integrate the resources provided through the programme into relevant student learning opportunities. The collaboration will cover both students and faculty.
The initiative comes as universities and technology companies expand industry-academia programmes focused on AI skills, computing infrastructure and developer training.
The MoU also provides for access to AMD’s developer resources and cloud-based computing capabilities, which can support hands-on experimentation and AI-related academic work.
The collaboration is part of AMD’s broader engagement with India’s technology and higher education ecosystem through academic programmes, developer initiatives and open-source AI technologies.
