New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi recorded light rain Sunday, with a spell of showers expected during the night and Monday. However, rain activity is likely to pause from Tuesday for the next few days. Rain helped Delhiites inhale this year’s second-best air quality index (AQI) at 55 in the satisfactory category.India Meteorological Department’s data shows that Safdarjung, the city’s base station, logged 2.4 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. During the same period, Ridge in north Delhi received 13.8 mm, Palam 4.9 mm and Lodhi Road 2 mm. In Sept so far, Safdarjung has recorded 74.3 mm of rainfall as opposed to the month’s normal of 123.5 mm.“Another spell of very light to light rain at a few places is expected Sunday night and Monday. However, rain is unlikely from Tuesday to Sept 12,” said IMD.The maximum temperature remained below 30 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day, at 29.1 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal, Sunday, as against 27.6 degrees Celsius the previous day. There was a difference of 1.5 degrees Celsius between day and night temperatures. The minimum temperature was reported at 24.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.As rain intensity is likely to be subdued over the next few days, the mercury is expected to show a slight increase. The maximum temperature is forecast to stay between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius.Meanwhile, regular rain kept the city’s AQI on the lower side. A lower AQI than this was last seen on July 9 at 48 after almost three years.
