NEW DELHI: Nine minors have been apprehended and two men arrested in connection with two stabbing incidents — one murder and one attempted murder — reported within hours of each other at the same Delhi Development Authority (DDA) park in Moti Nagar, west Delhi, on Monday. In the first case, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death following an argument over lending his mobile phone to make a call. Police said the teenager was found with a stab wound on his upper back and was declared brought dead at the hospital. CCTV footage from Gate No. 3 of the park and adjoining areas proved crucial. An eyewitness identified the suspects after viewing the clips. “Acting on technical analysis and tip-offs, the main assailant — a 16-year-old boy — was traced and apprehended,” said Darade Sharad Bhaskar, deputy commissioner of police (West). Based on his disclosure, four other minors aged 16–17 were detained. During questioning, all five confessed to their involvement, police said, adding that the knife used in the murder has been recovered. In the second incident, reported later the same evening at the same park, a 22-year-old man identified as Danish suffered a stab injury on the left upper back near his chest during a separate altercation. The fight reportedly began after the victim and the accused brushed past each other and their shoulders touched. Police analysed CCTV footage from Rama Road and nearby areas. Based on the clips and an eyewitness account, four minors were apprehended and two men — Divyanshu, 20, a courier delivery worker, and Ritik, 18, a student — were arrested. Police said the main assailant in the attempted murder case is a 15-year-old boy who allegedly inflicted the injury during a sudden quarrel. The knife used in this offence has also been seized.
