NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area on Wednesday. Following the incident, the accused himself went to the police station and reported the killing.The accused has been identified as Deepak (28), who was living with his wife in Janta Mazdoor Colony in the locality.A police officer said that incident came to light around 1.30am when the accused reached the Welcome police station and informed officials that he had strangled his wife. A police team was immediately dispatched to his rented accommodation, where the woman was found lying on the floor. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence. The accused has been arrested.During interrogation, the accused told police that he works as a confectioner and that there were frequent domestic disputes between the couple over routine household issues, such as cooking. “He returned home around midnight, and an argument broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, he killed his wife,” an officer said.Last year in June, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband at a hotel in central Delhi’s Paharganj over suspicions of an extramarital affair. The crime came to light when the husband himself called the Uttar Pradesh Police and confessed to the murder. He was subsequently arrested by the Delhi Police.In February of the same year, a similar incident was reported in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri. A 24-year-old man, identified as Aman, surrendered at the Harsh Vihar police station after allegedly killing his 20-year-old wife over suspicions of infidelity. Following his confession, a police team reached the scene and found the victim strangled. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
