Srinagar: Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, following the death of his father at AIIMS in New Delhi after a prolonged illness.
The bail was given till June 2. Awami Ittehad Party chief spokesperson Inam un Nabi said Rashid will be arriving in Srinagar on May 19 morning to participate in the Namaz-e-Janaza of his father Mohammad Khazir Sheikh, 85, at their ancestral village of Mawar Payeen of Handwara. His other son Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh is also an MLA from Langate.
Rashid has been in Tihar jail since 2019 when NIA arrested him under UAPA. While in jail he fought and won the Lok Sabha polls. On September 10, 2024, at the time of J&K assembly polls, he was released on interim bail for 22 days, extended till October 28. He was allowed to participate in the Parliament sessions. In April this year, the court granted him bail to meet his ailing father.
