New Delhi: Delhi govt plans to expand medical education capacity in the capital in phases, covering undergraduate, postgraduate and super-speciality courses. The expansion will be carried out through new medical colleges, increased capacity at existing institutions and the introduction of additional postgraduate and advanced medical programmes.Under the plan, the medical colleges being constructed alongside Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka and Guru Gobind Singh Hospital are proposed to have 150 MBBS seats each, creating 300 additional undergraduate seats.MBBS intake at Dr BSA Medical College and Hospital is proposed to rise from 125 to 200 seats. At Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), BDS intake is proposed to increase from 50 to 70 seats.At postgraduate level, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is proposed to add 35 seats, taking its PG capacity from 260 to 295. MAIDS is also proposed to increase its PG intake from 22 to 42 seats, while 24 new PG seats are proposed at BSA Medical College.Delhi Health and Family Welfare minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the expansion is aimed at strengthening the availability of trained medical professionals in the capital.
