Jaipur: People travelling between Jaipur and Delhi are set to face inconvenience for over two months as Northern Railway has temporarily withdrawn the halt of 13 trains at Delhi Cantonment railway station due to redevelopment work. The revised arrangement came into effect Saturday and will remain in force till Oct 13.Officials of North Western Railway (NWR) said a traffic block has been imposed to facilitate the upgradation of platforms 2 and 3 at Delhi Cantt under the station redevelopment project. As a result, several trains on the Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Rewari section will not stop at Delhi Cantt during the notified period.The Jaipur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Double Decker Express will skip Delhi Cantt while travelling towards Delhi from Aug 1 to Oct 13. However, the return service from Delhi Sarai Rohilla to Jaipur remains unaffected, as it does not normally halt at Delhi Cantt.Trains that will lose their Delhi Cantt halt in both directions include the Ajmer-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Jan Shatabdi Express, Bhuj-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express and Bandra Terminus-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express.The Barmer-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express, Jaisalmer-Kathgodam Ranikhet Express, Sabarmati-Varanasi Express, Udaipur City-New Jalpaiguri Express, Bikaner-Howrah Express and Jodhpur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express will lose the halt in one direction only.The move is expected to particularly affect Jaipur residents who commute to Delhi for work or higher education. Delhi Cantt has become a preferred deboarding point for passengers headed to Gurgaon, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Cantonment and south-west Delhi due to its convenient road and Metro connectivity.With trains bypassing the station, passengers will now have to alight at Delhi Sarai Rohilla or other terminals and continue their journey by Metro, bus or cab, adding to travel time and commuting costs.Officials said the temporary inconvenience is necessary to facilitate the station redevelopment project, which aims to modernise passenger amenities and infrastructure. Passengers have been advised to check the revised stoppage schedule before travelling.
