Udupi: A senior citizen was rescued from a well in a dramatic operation last weekend, with a delayed gas cylinder delivery playing a crucial role in tracing him. The survivor is Shrinivasa, 62.According to sources, the man lived alone, and had recovered from health issues two months ago. When he attempted to fix a problem with the water pump in the well, lost balance, and fell into the water. However, he managed to hold onto the pipe and rope inside the well. Though he screamed for help, his SOS calls went unheard.Sources said the victim had booked an LPG cylinder, but when the delivery got delayed, he borrowed a cylinder from a neighbour. When the neighbour wanted a cylinder, he asked the victim, who said that he had booked and the same was yet to be delivered. The neighbour contacted the agency and asked them to deliver the cylinder to Shrinivas. However, when the agency staff went to his house, he was not to be found — his phone too was switched off. Another neighbour started looking for Shrinivasa, and found him in a 20-foot well, it is learnt. Fire and emergency personnel, after being summoned on Saturday night, rushed to the spot and rescued him.
