Berhampur: Though 2 months have passed since the publication of entrance test results, admission in the CBSE-affiliated Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas in the district are yet to start.
The entrance test for admission of 1,760 students in Class VI in 22 OAVs was held on Jan 9 and the results published on Feb 18.
“Classes in other schools have already started for Class VI, while the admission is yet to start in OAV in the district. We are very worried on how the newly-admitted students will finish their courses with students of other schools in Class VI,” said PK Moharana, a parent in Berhampur. His son, who figured in the merit list, is waiting to take admission in OAV.
The state govt has set up the OAV, also called model schools in each block, to impart quality education in English medium from Class VI to XII without going to the towns since 2016-17. The intake capacity of each school in Class VI is 80 students with 50 of them being girls.
Ajay Kumar Patro, district education officer (DEO), Ganjam, said delay in finalisation of quota of public representatives, was one of the causes for delay in the start of admission process. He said they are finalising the merit list in most schools. The list of admission of selected students will be published within a week. In 2025, the admission process started from April 25, he said.
Sources said the quota of the district collector and MLA in each OAV in their constituency has been fixed at two seats each and one seat for MP (Lok Sabha) in the parliamentary constituency. One seat is reserved for Rajya Sabha members in any one of the OAVs in the state. “We are finalising the list of students to take admission as per CBSE guidelines after getting the names of students from public
