Patna: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Thursday criticised Delhi Police over the detention of protesters, alleging that the force acted on the instructions of Union home minister Amit Shah. He said street protests alone would not bring change and urged voters to defeat the BJP, JD(U) and NDA in Bihar’s upcoming MLC elections.Referring to Shah’s recent remarks questioning the impact of protests, Kishor said people should use elections to hold those in power accountable. He warned that failure to do so could expose others to similar police action in the future.Speaking at an event in Saharsa, Kishor also targeted the state govt over the recent killings of a retired customs officer in Bhojpur and a police constable in Nalanda. He alleged that the state’s policing system had failed to curb crime and accused police of focusing instead on liquor and sand mafias.Kishor also criticised the govt’s reliance on police encounters, saying it was the judiciary’s responsibility to determine guilt and punishment. He warned that encounters carried out in the name of caste or religion could create turmoil in society.Referring to the Vaishali boat tragedy, in which 13 children died after a boat capsized in the Ganga, Kishor questioned the alleged absence of rescue teams. He said meaningful social change would remain elusive if voters prioritised caste and religion over their children’s safety and future.Kishor stressed the need for better policing and accountability, saying the govt must address underlying failures rather than offer excuses for recurring incidents.
