Guwahati: Stressing the importance of knowledge in an AI-driven world, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) CEO Shivkumar Kalyanaraman on Sunday urged students of IIT Guwahati to use their learning to make a meaningful difference to society.Addressing the institute’s 28th convocation as chief guest, Kalyanaraman said, “In the age of AI, the true differentiator will be deep knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to define meaningful problems rather than merely generate answers.”He said future challenges would require interdisciplinary collaboration and an entrepreneurial mindset focused on solving real-world problems. “India needs innovators who can translate research into technology, build impactful solutions and contribute to national development. Through ANRF, we are strengthening India’s research and innovation ecosystem by fostering frontier research and academia-industry collaboration. I encourage each one of you to pursue excellence with curiosity, integrity and purpose,” he said.A total of 2,265 degrees were conferred, including 982 undergraduate, 871 postgraduate and 412 PhD degrees. Four gold medals and 18 silver medals were awarded.IIT Guwahati director Prof Devendra Jalihal said the institute published 2,478 research papers over the past year and is reviewing its undergraduate curriculum with greater focus on experiential learning and industry engagement.
