Bhubaneswar: The death toll of Odia migrant workers in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district rose to 12 on Friday after a woman from Angul district succumbed during treatment.Budhubari Naik of Angul district had been on ventilator support since the accident, in which workers were exposed to toxic ammonia gas.State labour commissioner Indramani Tripathy said on Friday that four workers from Odisha had been discharged from hospital. “They are travelling by train to Odisha with 58 other Odia workers employed at the same seafood processing unit,” he said.Tripathy added the bodies of 11 Juang women from Keonjhar district had been received. “After postmortem, Naik’s body will be brought to Odisha. Our officers are coordinating with Tamil Nadu govt officials in this regard,” he said.The Odisha govt, meanwhile, has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased migrant worker.
