Kanpur: A dead rat was allegedly found inside a branded namkeen packet in Rajpur town of Kanpur Dehat, prompting a complaint to the food safety department. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a man bought an Rs 80 packet of namkeen for children from a grocery shop near Mughal Road.A video that has now gone viral purportedly shows Nai Basti resident Javed Khan opening the packet and finding a dead rat inside. He complained to the shopkeeper, following which a crowd gathered at the spot. Someone recorded the incident and later shared the video on social media.A complaint was also lodged with the food safety department, with Khan demanding an investigation into the matter and action against those responsible.Food safety officer Pradeep Patel said, “The team will examine the namkeen packet, food material and other related facts. Action will be taken as per rules based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.”
