Berhampur: Family members of two migrant labourers in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts who died at their workplaces in Mumbai and Chennai recently have appealed to govt to bring their bodies to their respective villages.Santosh Moharana (34) of Basudevpur in Ganjam district’s Digapahandi block died in Mumbai on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He was working in a private company as a labourer for the last several years. He suffered from fever on Sunday. His friends admitted him to a private hospital, where he died during treatment, sources said.The family members of the deceased requested MLA (Digapahandi) Sidhant Mohapatra to bring his body from Mumbai to the village for his last rites. District labour officer, Berhampur, Subhalaxmi Behera said the body of the deceased was expected to reach soon, as they have already coordinated with an Odia Association in Mumbai. “We will take legal steps for compensation after getting his death reports,” she said.Similarly, Kasturi Pradhan (30) and Simanchal Nayak (19) of Ganjigaon, Sirtiguda and Mandipenak respectively in K. Nuagaon and Daringbadi police station limits in Kandhamal district died on Sunday at Coimbatore and Hyderabad respectively. While the family members of Simanchal brought his body to the village on Monday, the body of Kasturi was yet to reach. Kasturi was working in a textile mill at Coimbatore for the last two years. She was found dead in her room on Sunday. The exact reason of her death is not known, sources said.Her father, Kusha Pradhan, has requested the DLO Kandhamal to bring her body. “We have taken up the matter with the govt through the district administration,” said Biswa Ranjan Kanhar, district labour officer (in-charge), Kandhamal. With the death of Kasturi and Simanchal, five migrant labourers in Kandhamal have died at their workplaces in a week, sources said.
