Ahmedabad: A restaurant on Sindhu Bhavan Road was fined Rs 50,000 after a customer complained of finding a dead fly in the garlic bread served to him on Wednesday. After receiving the customer’s complaint on the experience at Komo By Kaffa, a team from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) health department inspected the kitchen.The department stated, “On March 18, 2026, a complaint was received about a dead fly in garlic bread at Komo By Kaffa restaurant on Sindhu Bhavan Road. Following this, a senior food safety officer from the health department visited and inspected the restaurant. During the inspection, it was found that the restaurant had a valid FSSAI licence. It had also carried out pest control, and a certificate was presented. The complainant was contacted to verify the complaint’s authenticity and asked to visit the site, but they could not come due to their schedule. Based on the complaint, a notice was issued to the restaurant for negligence, and an administrative charge of Rs 50,000 was collected. Samples of garlic bread and used cooking oil were sent to the Public Health Laboratory for testing.”Between March 1 and March 17, the health department inspected 867 units, and issued 330 units. A total of 591kg of inedible food and 619 litres of inedible liquid were destroyed. Additionally, 443 food samples were collected for testing. During these inspections, two units were sealed due to unhygienic conditions.
