After the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced the list of coaches and selectors for the different age groups on Friday, joint secretary Amit Grover has raised concerns over some appointments.
In an email addressed to the Sarandeep Singh-led Cricket Advisory Committee, which was also marked to president Rohan Jaitley, Grover expressed reservations over Manu Nayar and Varun Sood in particular. While Nayar has been named in the three-member men’s selection panel, Varun has been drafted in as assistant coach of the under-19 side.
“With regard to the proposed appointments of coaches and selectors, I wish to formally place on record my reservations concerning the proposed appointment of Mr. Varun Sood and Mr. Manu Nayar, particularly with regard to their eligibility and compliance with the prescribed criteria,” Grover wrote.
The details of why Nayar and Varun don’t satisfy the criteria weren’t specified in the mail. Grover also questioned the logic of continuing with two of the three selectors after Delhi’s below-par performance last season. K.P. Bhaskar and Nayar have been retained, with the new entrant being Praveen Gupta in place of Yashpal Singh.
Meanwhile, in a separate email to Jaitley, DDCA director Shyam Sharma requested for the secretary and joint secretary to be debarred from attending selection meetings. “The presence of office-bearers in such meetings can influence the selectors and hamper fair and transparent selection, which is against the principles of the DDCA and BCCI,” Shyam wrote.
