Mangaluru: The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) has launched an admission campaign for the 2026-27 academic year to increase enrolment in govt first-grade colleges and improve the gross enrolment ratio. The campaign is scheduled for this month, ahead of the final PU examinations, to attract students early. Officials said the initiative is aimed at increasing student intake across urban, rural and economically backward regions of the state, with a special focus on expanding access to higher education.
The department also raised concern about some colleges involved in fake admissions to show increased strength on campuses. It further warned that if the dropout rate in any stream or course exceeds 25%, the principal of the college concerned will be held responsible. Principals of govt first-grade colleges have been told to visit all govt pre-university colleges allotted to them by Feb 20. During these visits, principals are to brief eligible PU students on the courses offered in govt degree colleges and the related employment opportunities. The DCE has also directed every college to constitute an admissions committee, allocate nearby PU colleges to faculty members, and conduct campaign-related programmes on schedule. Colleges have been told to ensure that at least 75% of their sanctioned intake is filled for the 2026-27 academic year. Institutions that recorded more than 75% enrolment in 2025-26 have been instructed to increase admissions by at least another 10% over the previous year. To strengthen oversight during admissions, the department mandated the presence of permanent faculty members on a rotational basis throughout the admission process.
