times news networkPanaji: The population Census in Goa will take place from Dec 1, 2026, to Jan 4, 2027, followed by a revisional round from Jan 5 to 9, 2027, the office of the Registrar General, under the Union home ministry, said in a gazette notification issued on Saturday.“For the conduct of the Census, there shall be an option for self-enumeration from Nov 16 to Nov 30, 2026, just before the start of house-to-house population enumeration,” the notification states.Goa is scheduled to go to polls early next year and a new govt has to be constituted by March-end.The population Census in Goa is taking place earlier than announced before. The population enumeration was to be conducted early in Feb 2027, with a revisional round from March 1, 2027 to March 5, 2027.The conduct of Census of population will be undertaken in Goa alongside Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and areas other than the snow-bound parts of Uttarakhand.The first phase of house-listing and housing Census took place in Goa from April 16 to May 15, 2026. It was also preceded by a self-enumeration period from April 1 to April 15, 2026.The house-listing Census covered the condition of residence like details on roof, wall materials, and the condition of buildings; access to drinking water, electricity, type of latrine, cooking fuel, and internet; and possession of items like televisions, computers, telephones, and vehicles.The population Census will cover age, sex, and marital status of every resident, mother tongue, religion, education levels, literacy, occupation, and migration details, alongside fertility. For the first time, the population Census is to cover caste-related data.The Census 2027 is the first to be carried out digitally by enumerators and also the first to allow online self-enumeration for citizens. In Goa, Konkani was included first time ever as one of the languages in which field enumerators could carry out data collection.
