Ahmedabad: Gujarat DGP has suspended three police personnel — Dariapur PI G V Gohil, surveillance squad PSI V C Choudhary and Dabgarwad Chowki PSI A M Parmar — for alleged negligence after the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) busted a gambling racket operating at Manpasand Gymkhana Club and arrested 187 people.The Gandhinagar-based SMC raided the club on Aug 2 after receiving information about alleged large-scale gambling activities on the premises.Sources said the premises had previously come under the scanner for similar activities.The latest action also revived memories of a major SMC raid at the club in 2021, when over 180 gamblers were arrested and property worth around Rs 85 lakh was seized. Several Dariapur police personnel were suspended then as well for alleged dereliction of duty.Investigators said the latest gambling operation was being run on a large scale with multiple gaming tables and arrangements for discreet financial transactions. The alleged organisers included Govind alias Gama Patel and Kirit Singh Chavda, police said.The crackdown also prompted action by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, which sealed the club on Aug 8 over alleged land-use violations. Officials found portions of the premises were being used for commercial activities despite approval for residential use.
