Patna: Danapur railway station is undergoing a massive transformation under the station redevelopment plan at an estimated cost of Rs 71.68 crore. The ambitious project aims to enhance passenger amenities, improve traffic management, and cater to the growing footfall.According to Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (senior DCM) Abhinav Siddarth, RITES has been entrusted with preparing the design and implementation plan for the comprehensive redevelopment. The project is intended to modernise infrastructure and streamline passenger movement while preserving operational efficiency, he said.As part of the redevelopment, a ‘cabway’ will be constructed on platform number 6 at a cost of Rs 14.07 crore on the pattern of the facility available at Howrah station. The cabway is expected to facilitate smooth vehicular movement and improve passenger access, Siddarth said.To ease congestion, a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge (FOB) is being built at a cost of Rs 19.55 crore. The new FOB is expected to reduce crowding during peak hours. The circulating area is also being upgraded at a cost of Rs 1.39 crore, while station expansion and platform widening works will be undertaken at an estimated Rs 19.98 crore.To enhance passenger convenience, two lifts and escalators have been installed at a cost of Rs 2.37 crore. In addition, seven more lifts are proposed at a cost of Rs 5.59 crore to improve accessibility across platforms. Special emphasis is being laid on facilities for Divyangjan passengers, with Rs 1.24 crore earmarked for creating and upgrading barrier-free amenities.The redevelopment plan also includes a modern passenger information system at a cost of Rs 79.3 lakh to provide real-time train and platform-related updates. A master plan for the redevelopment has been prepared at a cost of Rs 76.3 lakh. Siddarth said the upgraded infrastructure would improve passenger comfort and safety, while strengthening Danapur’s role as a key railway hub in the region.
