Bhubaneswar: Dana Majhi from Kalahandi, who came into limelight for carrying his dead wife on his shoulder in the absence of a hearse, on Monday lodged a complaint in Patnagarh police station against a film producer alleging a short film titled “Laas” has been made on his life without his permission.Police are yet to register the complaint but they have made a diary of the complaint. In case a complaint is made diary, it can be translated into an FIR later, police said. “Given the content of the complaint, it looked more like a copyright violation rather than a case of criminal intent,” said IIC of Patnagarh police station H B Gadtia.Majhi from Melaghar village in Kalahandi district’s Thuamul-Rampur block had walked 10 km carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder in 2016. The incident had triggered a lot of debate in the state regarding poverty, healthcare and welfare schemes. Since then there have been several attempts by different private organisations and film producers to tell Dana’s story to the world.Police said only one short documentary by Patnagarh-based producer since then has been made with Dana’s permission and second was made by a Sambalpur-based producer without permission, which has been objected to by Dana.“Without permission, the Sambalpur-based producer has made a film and has sold it too. It is based on my life and consent should have been taken from me,” Majhi told local media.After the 2016 incident, financial aid poured in from different sources and Dana bought a motorcycle and built a pucca house. His family is stable now with three daughters, one of whom passed matriculation examination in 2021.
