Mysuru: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said a technical committee has been formed to assess all dams in the state.“Once the report is submitted, essential safety works will be taken up in phases,” Shivakumar, who also holds the water resources portfolio, said.On future tourism promotion, Shivakumar confirmed a proposal for organising Kabini Utsav is under consideration, along with plans for hosting Cauvery Aarti. “These events will help boost tourism and generate employment in the region,” he said. On the pending botanical garden project, he noted that private investment is needed to push it forward. “Our immediate focus remains on dam safety and efficient water management,” Shivakumar stated.Earlier, CM Siddaramaiah announced tourism development initiatives worth Rs 32.2 crore for the Kabini region.“We are maximising the potential of Kabini Dam and ensuring we meet our water-sharing commitments to Tamil Nadu,” he said, adding that further development works will soon be initiated at the 50-year-old dam. On the Mekedatu project, Siddaramaiah reiterated, “We are ready to implement the project once the Union govt grants approval.”
