Daltonganj: Trade bodies in Daltonganj remained uncertain about installing CCTV cameras at their business establishments, with some traders citing concerns that any crime in the surroundings captured on their cameras would lead to repeated police visits to scan footage, which they said was cumbersome. The traders, who requested anonymity, also feared that police would carry away their digital video recorder for investigation, causing inconvenience. On Tuesday, SP Palamu Kapil Chaudhary held an interactive session with businessmen in Daltonganj, where some expressed reservations about setting up CCTV cameras, citing these concerns. The SP said, “I have dispelled their doubts. There is no discomfort or inconvenience to them from the police.”He said “I have assured the businessmen that police will not take away their digital video recorder. Images will be preserved in pen drive by the police.”Despite the assurances, the businessmen were not fully convinced, sources said. The tradesmen also raised an issue related to arms licences, ranging from small weapons like pistols to bigger ones like rifles.“I have very politely but firmly set aside their demand for the licence of arms in bulk. It will never be. Arms licence is given in accordance with a prescribed protocol for it. There will never be any such grant of arms licence,” the SP added.
