Jamshedpur: Tourists visiting Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary can now stay overnight amid dense forests and scenic greenery, following the inauguration of 15 new eco-cottages at Makulakocha on Sunday. The sanctuary is a popular getaway for wildlife enthusiasts from Jamshedpur and nearby towns.The Dalma Eco Retreat, located inside the sanctuary’s designated tourism zone, was inaugurated by tourism minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, who directed officials to open bookings for visitors. Bookings will begin soon once officials complete formalities. The facility has been developed under the approved Wildlife Management Plan (2021–2030).Designed to improve the visitor experience, the cottages offer modern amenities while keeping tourists close to nature. Each cottage can accommodate two adults and one child and is equipped with air conditioning, a television and a king-size bed. The retreat also includes a cafeteria, landscaped lawn, ample parking space, colourful fountains and facilities for a variety of meals.Officials said the project’s biggest attraction is its location in the heart of the forest, offering guests a peaceful stay surrounded by greenery.Dalma divisional forest officer Saba Alam Ansari said the cottages have been built in line with the sanctuary’s tourism plan and conservation guidelines. Ansari added that the initiative is aimed at promoting responsible ecotourism while generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for members of local Eco-Development Committees.Construction of another 15 eco-cottages at Pindrabera is in the final phase.Officials said the eco-retreat is expected to strengthen Dalma’s appeal as a nature tourism destination while ensuring that nearby communities benefit from tourism alongside conservation efforts.
