Srinagar, Sep 11: The Jammu Kashmir Casual Daily Wagers Forum (JKCDWF) on Friday warned of a massive protest by daily wagers and casual labourers across the Union Territory on September 22 if the committee’s recommendations for regularising temporary employees are not made public.
Scores of JKCDWF members led by its President, Sajad Ahmad Parray, staged a protest at Sher-e-Kashmir Park here and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Speaking to media persons, Parray appealed to the government to fulfil their demands, urging it not to repeat what he termed the “2014 episode” when, according to him, their issues were not adequately addressed. “We want to appeal to the government to provide the recommendations in the Assembly Session. We appeal to them not to repeat 2014,” he said.
Parray questioned why daily wagers and casual employees were being “pushed to the wall”, saying they and their families were part of the same society and deserved fair treatment. “When MLAs get a hike in salaries, why are employees being pushed to the wall?” he asked.
The forum president alleged that temporary employees had been given “high and tall promises” before elections, but their problems continued after the government assumed office.
He said the community had faced hardships during the LG administration and was continuing to face similar difficulties under the elected government.
“We have decided to go on strike from September 22. All daily wagers and casual labourers will hit the streets to press for their demands,” he said.
Parray urged the government to intervene before the proposed strike and address the long-standing concerns of daily wagers and casual employees.
The fresh protests by the JKCDWF started on September 1 when the forum members hit the streets at Press Enclave here to press for their demands.
