Dahanu: A day after TOI’s report on how a family in Dahanu taluka was forced to wade through a flooded river to complete the last rites of a relative due to the absence of a bridge, the district administration swung into action with a zilla parishad team inspecting the site on Thursday.Officials from the zilla parishad’s construction department said a bridge has already been proposed at the site, but the Rs 1-crore project has been stalled due to lack of funds. They added that efforts would be made to secure the required funds and take the project forward.Around 150 families live in Dhodipada in Dhundalwadi, Dahanu taluka. Although a gravel road leads to the local cremation ground, residents have to take a detour of around 1.5km to reach it. Villagers have been demanding a bridge over the river to provide a shorter and safer route, particularly for carrying bodies to the cremation ground. The issue came to the fore on Tuesday after a member of the Mukane family died and relatives were forced to carry the body through the flooded river to reach the cremation ground.
