Pune: A 34-year-old married woman was duped of Rs8.14 lakh by a man she met on social media who promised to marry and take her abroad between Aug 27 and Sept 24.She lodged a complaint with Kalewadi police. Inspector Surendra Dhumale told TOI that the accused claimed to be an NRI living abroad in their initial chats and, soon after, began asking for money under various pretexts. “The woman, who wanted to settle with him abroad, transferred money unsuspectingly whenever he asked,” he said.She ended up transferring Rs8.14 lakh to multiple bank accounts provided by the accused. “When the accused kept demanding more money, she realised she was being duped. She informed her family members and approached the police,” Dhumale said.
