Jind: Congress MLA and CWG gold-medallist wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday said she would challenge former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s Aug 3 acquittal in the Supreme Court, alleging that the outcome was “already decided” and vowing to continue the fight against him.“We will challenge his acquittal in the Supreme Court. But under no circumstances will we stop this fight,” Phogat said.Targeting Brij Bhushan, she alleged that his political influence and backing from the BJP-led central and Uttar Pradesh govts had helped shield him. She said athletes who had spent decades in wrestling would not take to the streets over “frivolous issues”.“We are not thugs or goons like him who need to resort to such tactics to enter politics. Our reputation and achievements spoke for themselves,” she said.Phogat said the fight was also about exposing how “power and authority are used to shield such individuals”.Taking a swipe at BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, she described her statements as “gutter-like language” and said the actor-turned-politician was “non-serious” and did not understand the issues. On Haryana’s sports policy, Phogat said its performance was “zero” despite the state producing a large share of India’s medal-winning athletes. She also criticised the decision to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Gujarat, saying Haryana, which produces many medal-winning athletes, should have been given the opportunity. She questioned the long-term utility of infrastructure built for the Games once the event ends.
